A study just released by NASA and has shown that in the last decade, from 2000 to 2009 the clouds have had a positive contribution to the Global Warming . As is known, the contribution of clouds to global warming in action, it remains one of the points of greatest uncertainty in climate forecasts long-term debate on the relevance of which has always been the scientific community.
Andrew Dessler, an author of the study ( www.physorg . com ) showed a positive feedback and highlighted that despite the levels of uncertainty, the current climate simulation models are therefore substantially correct in taking into account the effect of cloudiness. The inherent difficulty of the research is due to the fact that the cloud formations are highly variable and change within a very short time, making them very difficult measurement and modeling.
The low clouds are formed mostly by water droplets, which mainly reflect solar radiation ing the atmosphere. The high clouds like cirrus clouds, formed by ice crystals, and typically they trap infrared radiation providing additional heating. In technical terms, Dessler found that for every degree of warming in general amplify the clouds in addition to providing Watt/m2 0.5 (unit of energy that enters and exits the Earth system). However the decade he studied did not present a trend of constant increase in heat and is therefore difficult to determine for what part the clouds are responsible for the heat.
The next step now will be to understand the physics of clouds that result in positive feedback. Some theories, yet to be confirmed, suggest that the increase in temperature leads to an increase of the height of the clouds and higher clouds trap more infrared radiation, heating encouraging.
